This chant is the standard transferance of merits chant by monks and nuns (in Thailand). It would be chanted during offering of food and requisities. When I first heard this chant, I was observing 8 precepts and really like it. I asked my teacher if I can chant it as a layperson in the seclular world. She said can and I memorised the chant. I chanted this on and off especially when I did a meritorous deed and wish to transfer merits.

There was one time I got some 'disturbance' in my sleep. That time I was in a semi awake, semi asleep state. My heart automatically chanted this chant and the danger went off. This is a really good chant but we have to do good ourselves so when we chant transferance of merits we really have merits to give to other beings
